Hints and Tips

If your kitchen floor is smallish and you don't mind crawling for a bit you can use the dishwater if there is no oil film on it to wash your floor.

If you have pets and time it right you can use the dish water to clean their dishes after feeding and water bowls when changing their water.

When running a tap and waiting to get hot or cold water from it try catching the water you have to run out to do this in a bucket or some other vessel instead of letting it run away. You can then use it elsewhere like to refill the kettle or your pets water bowl or even your own glass of water if you drink straight tap water. Some people even have a bucket in the shower/bath and water their plants with that. I even have a bucket at the garden tap to catch the water even when I wash my hands off.

A small 100 psi pump with hose and trigger lance attached and a 15 or 20 liter bucket of clean water and a 15 liter bucket of water with car wash in is sufficient to use instead of the garden hose to wash the car, the trick is to rinse the car of dust first using the clean water bucket, then spray it with the washing mix, then use the bucket and sponge as usual, then rinse again using the clean water, this water can be the water collected in the home.

For drinks in the home don't rely on commercially made / pre-made drinks. The reason for this is at any given time these factories in Brisbane Qld alone hold about 20billion liters of water. You however only use it as needed and it would be healthier for you and the environment.

Attaching a short hose to the bath tap creates a variety of water saving options in the home. Ladies who shave their legs, put a plug in the bath wash your hair and body if needed, use the caught water to shave your legs. Actually you don't have to shave to use this technique for a reason to have a bath, in this instance sharing the bath is a worthwhile step and unless you are a complete grot it is no less hygienic than having a dip in the lake while camping, or a swim in the ocean.

Another thing I found particularly useful in having this hose attached to the bath is when I make food in containers that are simply too large for the sink to wash them. You run the water into the large container put in the dish liquid carry container to kitchen, do dishes in container, return to bathroom with container finish washing container empty, rinse and drain in bath, after cleaning bath prior to draining container of course using the washing water for the cleaning.

When mopping the floors instead of just pouring the water out mop the shower floors with it, or as I sometimes do use it instead of fresh water to wash the shower, bath and even the toilets, then with what is left provided you don't use nastier products to clean your floors, water the garden or a patch of lawn with it.

As we all know you don't need to have a bath or shower to was your hair. This is great especially on hot days, just jump into a set of bathers get the garden hose stand on the lawn near your veggie patch or garden and wash your hair on the lawn using the hose for water, a nozzle that stops the flow is highly recommended so you don't have to either stand at the tap or have someone else there for while your lathering up.

They say turn the tap off when not actively using it when cleaning your teeth. You only need to turn it on to wet the bristles and paste just prior to brushing, when rinsing the
